Here are some ideas to help get you get started with your holiday cleaning:
- Clean out your closets. Not only is it good to get rid of clutter, but you can take what you don't want and donate it to Good Will or any other charity organization. You may care that your sweater is “last season” but someone in need won't.
- Polish your silver. If you plan on hosting any parties or dinners, make sure your table service is spotless. This is a good task for the little ones to help out too.
- Get those carpets clean. Between opening presents, playing games and having children over to the house, your floors get a lot of action throughout the holidays. If it’s been awhile since you last had your carpets professionally cleaned (6-12 months), perhaps it’s time you scheduled a cleaning to remove all the dirt, dust mites and debris that have collected in the past year. Clean carpets are paramount for a clean, healthy home.
- Clean your air ducts. Cleaning your air ducts works for you in two ways: it helps you save you money on your heating bill and it dramatically improves the indoor air quality in your home, imperative for any allergy sufferers.
- Clean your window treatments. Drapes are similar to carpet in that they spend all year collecting dirt and dust mites and should be professionally cleaned about once a year. Since it’s getting colder, you're more likely to keep the house closed off, trapping all that dust and dirt inside the house.
