Why Clean Your Air Ducts?

Over time, household dust, allergens, and contaminants can accumulate on the inside lining of your air ducts. Here is a list of the most common contaminants inside air duct systems:

Household Dust

Think household dust is just dust? Think again. Household dust is a mixture of a surprisingly large number of elements. For more information on what makes up household dust, click here.

Debris inside duct

Construction Debris

Construction debris from new construction or a past remodeling job is commonly found inside air ducts.

Carcasses of Animals or Insects

Although not very common, it does happen. Animals like raccoons, rats, mice, and even snakes have been found inside air ducts.

Mold

Minor problems with ducts can create condensation. Insulation failure, a punctured duct wall, or a bad connection between components of the duct system can allow moisture to form. Moisture, combined with content in the dust, can result in mold growth.

Cleaning duct by source removal method

Our Dalworth Duct Cleaning Process

Source Removal

Dalworth uses a “source removal” method for cleaning ducts. Our equipment connects directly to your duct system and a powerful vacuum creates a “reverse airflow” through the ducting. A separate cleaning tool that cleans the duct lining is then pushed through the ducting. Contaminants are picked-up into the air stream and removed from the ducts.

Sealing

Some duct cleaners fog in a “sealing agent” into the duct system. The sealing agent uses adhesives to seal the dust and contaminants to the duct wall. Dalworth does not use this type of process.

Blower Fan and Coil Cleaning

The blower fan and evaporation coil are cleaned in place. Even a thin layer of dust here can reduce the efficiency of your HVAC system. Also, the continual presence of moisture during the cooling season can lead to mold growth on the evaporation coils.

Disinfectant Applied

The presence of mold inside an HVAC system can be an allergy trigger for some. Our Standard and Premium Service Packages include the application of an EPA-registered disinfectant to the coils and ducts.

Anti-Allergy Treatment

An optional Anti-Allergy Treatment can be applied to the system. This treatment will neutralize proteins common in the environment.

Duct Sealing

The air duct system in your home is used to distribute conditioned air throughout the house. In a typical house, however, some portion of the air moving through the duct system is lost due to leaks, holes, and poorly connected ducts. This lowers efficiency, increases energy costs, and makes it more difficult to keep the house comfortable. Sealing those leaks will create an energy-efficient system that provides the following benefits:

  • Improves System Efficiency
  • Reduces Energy Consumption
  • Improves Comfort Level

Video Inspection

Dalworth offers an optional video inspection service for duct systems. Using a specialized video camera system, we can inspect and record the interior condition of a duct system. This lets you know what the true condition is on the inside of your duct system.

Mold Contamination

Small amounts of mold growth inside an HVAC system is not unusual. Evaporation coils and around vents are the most common areas for mold growth. Ducts in need of repair, or a system not operating properly, are usually the cause. Dalworth offers an optional sanitizing treatment to address minor mold and bacterial issues. More serious mold contamination is a completely different issue. Mold contamination of the duct system requires the attention of an industrial hygienist prior to any attempt to clean or remove the mold.
