LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Dallas/Fort Worth and SEA LIFE Grapevine have teamed up to put some magic into the lives of those who need it most. To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Merlin’s Magic Wand, a global charity run by their parent company, Merlin Entertainments, the attractions have customized two therapy rooms at Bryan’s House creating a SEA LIFE ocean adventure and LEGOLAND Discovery Center® train-themed experience.
Bryan’s House celebrated the opening of the new therapy rooms on Friday, February 23rd at 10 a.m. with special guests Bertie, the LEGOLAND® Discovery Center mascot, and Sharky from SEA LIFE Grapevine Aquarium. The first of its kind in Texas, these rooms are part of Merlin’s Magic Spaces, an initiative designed to ensure that local children, who are unable to visit the attractions due to serious illness, still have the opportunity to experience the unique magic of Merlin.
Bryan’s House provides underserved children in North Texas with specialized medical, educational and therapeutic care, and holistic support services for families. The rooms will be used by over 160 families annually, and serve as a space for early childcare education and therapy programs that include speech, occupational, physical and feeding therapies.
The SEA LIFE inspired room will be a calming space, geared for children with a sensory processing disorder – immersing them into a serene, underwater world with seabed floor, tactile fish, interactive submarine, and magnetic octopus tile puzzle. The LEGOLAND® Discovery Center space incorporates all things LEGO DUPLO® complete with a child-size train running through the room, foam balance beam, and hands-on wall featuring farm animals that make noises when touched. Dalworth Clean also donated lifelike epoxy floors to help further engage the children in these captivating spaces.
“We are thrilled and honored to be the first nonprofit in the southwest of the United States selected as a beneficiary by Merlin’s Magic Wand Philanthropic Foundation, LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Dallas/Fort Worth and SEA LIFE Grapevine for our therapy room make-overs,” said Abigail Torres, CEO, Bryan’s House. “The opportunity to transform our therapy areas, not only physically, but conceptually and environmentally to meet the sensory and play-time needs of underserved children ages five to fourteen who live with social, emotional and physical in North Dallas is transformational. It all goes together to enhance our unique education-medical-therapy model experience and why our programs have been so successful – we are always looking for great ideas and partners to meet or exceed our mission.”
Bryan’s House was founded in 1988 to provide hospice care for infants with HIV/AIDS. In 2006, it expanded its mission to respond to the complex medical, social, emotional, physical, and developmental challenges of children ages 0-13 living with HIV/AIDS, Down syndrome, lupus, leukemia, cerebral palsy, seizure disorders and spina bifida. The organization’s nurses, specially-trained caregivers and therapists provide intensive, holistic support for the children and their families at no cost to families in need. The organization is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children and serves more than 1,000 families annually from eight North Texas counties including: Dallas, Denton, Rockwall, Archer, Collin, Kaufman, Ellis and Tarrant.
